Mangalore : A national Bunt women’s convention ‘Shakti’, was held under the auspices of Shree Siddivinayaka Prathistana and Sarvajanika Ganeshothsava Samithi at Bunt’s Hostel premises on Aug 24, Sunday.
Seaking after inaugurating the convention, Sadhvi Mathanandamayi of Odiyoor Mutt such kind of convention will boost the women to show their power.
Kannada film actress and MLC Thara Anuradha said that, it is a fact that behind every successful man, there will always be a woman. But there are only few instances, where man will work for the success of a woman. If a woman has a willpower and necessary encouragement she can reach to a greater extent.
Puttur MLA Shakunthala Shetty presided over the event and said that, today everyone has realized the importance of a matriarchal society. But this system is followed by the Bunt community from yesteryears. She urged the women to show their potentials even in the field of politics.
She also said that, crimes against women in the society increases hence women must become brave and fight for their rights and justice. Most of the girls dress up like boys, this shows that they lack the fighting spirit as girls in their life, she regretted.
Meera Krishnappa, vice-president of Bengaluru Bunt Sangha urged the women to recognise the ‘shakti’ present within her.
An exhibition of antique currency, cultural and heritage household items used by the tulunad people were displayed at the convention.
Bunt women’s convention president Ashajyothi Rai welcomed the gathering.
