Mangalore: The newly selected DK ZP president Ms.K.T Shaila Bhat was speaking at Kalangan in Shakthinagar in city on Women’s empowerment. A 2-day local workshop had been organised by Information Department at the state level Friday here.
Quoting several women’s names who led the country by their own efforts and capacity, Ms Bhat told the listeners that there was no reservation for them in those days. Like them (say, Indira Gandhi or Sushma Swaraj) every women could put in enough hard work to rise in public life, aided by Govt. provisions for women’s empowerment. There are several self help groups for them.
She referred to the high regard and attention paid to women in Indian society in modern days, as also in Vedic times. But women should be careful to use their position in society, Ms.Bhat said.
Information Department deputy director A.R Rakesh made introductory remarks. DK ZP deputy chairperson Dhanalaxmi J. also spoke about the state support for enterprising women in public life and urged women to step out of homes.
Several resource persons participated in the workshop to make it meaningful. The limitations of reservations in earlier stages should not be perpetuated, when women come in large numbers to serve public causes like men, it was mentioned by speakers.
Hampi University Chief H.Nagaveni, Prajavani Chief Sub-editor Ismail N.A.M., Bangalore University PGS centre’s Dr.D.Dominic who directed the workshop at Kalangan, among others were present. DK Information Officer Rohini welcomed. Several departmental Scholars on women’s goals in life have participated. Vinod of Coorg compered the inaugural proceedings, as information officer.
