Mangalore: “Women should be bold and courageous enough to raise their voice for their legitimate equal rights and liberties” urged Lions Past Dist Governor Ln. Dr. Kripa Alva. She was a chief guest speaker on the “Jagrathi 2014” a seminar on Women Empowerment organised by the Lions Club Mangalore Cauvery jointly with Narayana Guru College on 27.03.2014 at the college auditorium.
Women are capable in contributing for country’s economic and industrial growth in all directions and dimensions. She also appealed to the Govt to liberate women who are facing atrocities like sexual harassment and domestic violence and to provide them safety and security to move freely in the society. She advised the women to develop confidence and competence in their future endeavours. Earlier, Lions Dist First Lady Ln. Shantheri Prabhu inaugurated the seminar.
Lions Dist Governor Ln. K.C. Prabhu in his address regretted that women empowerment in India is a frequently discussed subject and debated issue without any amicable solution. Even the Govt has failed to implement the women reservation policy. On this occasion he awarded a scholarship of Rs. 10,000 to a economically weak and meritorious student Kumari Devika and distributed dress materials to women jail inmates. He also felicitated Ln. Laxmi Nayar on being conferred with the Jawaharlal Lal gold medal in Chennai.
Lions Dist Governor Elect Ln. Manjunath Murthy and Dist Governor Nominee Ln. Kavitha Shastry, College Principal Dr. Vasanth Kumar and Correspondent Prof. Balakrishna Gatty were present on this occasion.
