Mangalore: The Hindu calendar marks Varamahalakshmi Pooja as the start of a new festive season and celebrate the day grandly to welcome the Goddess of wealth Lakshmi into their homes.
Hindus perform special poojas to the please the Goddess of wealth. They decorate the altar with money, gold, silver, and jewelry, which they offer to the goddess. They believe that the goddess grants all boons requested on this day.
The ladies of the community offer special worship on this day by decorating the house with flowers and inviting neighbors to participate in the pooja. They offer flowers, clothes, sweets, and fruits, sing hymns in praise of the goddess, and pray for the well being of family members.
Special poojas were held in temples dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi in Mangalore such as Mangaladevi, Kateel Durgaparameshwari, Boloor Mariyamma Temple,
Devotees visited these temples in large numbers.
