Mangalore: The Roshni Nilaya College of Social Work in Jeppu conducted a daylong Workshop on Professional social work in India with emerging trends in theory and practice, for practitioners and educators. This was to commemorate 75 years of social work education in India.
Samraksha(Bangalore) Chief Trustee, Sanghamitra Iyengar was chief guest, and made the keynote address after inaugurating the workshop. The lady from Bangalore said social work was an applied science, designed to treat people with dignity. It develops social responsibility and provides an opportunity to understand and accept people as they are, also situations in a better manner.
She expressed pride in being a social worker. One has to give time everyday to have values and apply them to living state, she explained.
Principal Dr. Sophia Fernandes presided over the event, arranged by Indian Society of professional social workers in city.
The workshop has two more session, to be addressed by Prof. K. Shekhar of NIMHANS, and S.K. Jaiswal (of Tatas, Mumbai) and Prof. Keith Gomez of Chennai Loyola college as invitees.
