Mangalore: The Kanara Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI), along with FKCCI of Bangalore organised a practical workshop in Value Added Tax (VAT) and other commercial (sales etc) taxes, and the E-filing of tax returns on Saturday (today) at 11 a.m. The event was inaugurated by J. R Bangera, Senior Vice-President of FKCCI, who explained the process of VAT and commercial taxes, such as sales, central, service taxes, and referred to the safe filing of Tax Returns by electronic method, to avoid delay and penalties by tax-payers.
B.T Manohar, Assistant Commissioner of Commercial Taxes under E-filing methods in Karnataka told the distinguished audience how beneficial it was to pay advance tax and e-file tax returns well in time as conscientious and law-abiding citizens, taking into proper consideration all the facilities provided by the state to tax-payers (especially, with a permanent Account Number –PAN) who do not wait till the last day to settle their tax liabilities.
The tax structure for the present year is indicated in the 2010-11 budget speech of the Finance Minister at Centre and in State (Bangalore). There are tax guides, advisers and trained tax consultants available to pay how much tax on how many accounts and how to calculate the taxable income for the year of accounting, and so on. He gave a demonstration of E-filing for the benefit of trainees and KCCI members.
The seminar / workshop continued upto 2 p.m with a lunch at the KCCI Hall at Bunder, Mangalore, with G.G. Mohandas Prabhu, President of local KCCI present.
