Mangalore : The World Bio-fuel Day’was observed by the Karnataka State Bio-fuel Development Board (KSBDB) jointly with Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat and Taluk Panchayat, at Taluk Panchayat Auditorium on August 10, Friday.
Speaking after inaugurating the event, Dr K.N. Vijayaprakash, CEO of Zilla Panchayat, said that the state government has rendered its support in the research of bio-fuel. It would be useful if we make our self committed to apply, adopt and use the bio-fuel in our state and homes on the daily basis, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Airody Vasudeva Adhikari, Coordinator of Information and Documentation Centre, KSBDB, NIT-K, Suratkal, briefed the gathering on the production of bio-fuel from various oil seeds like Neem, Honge, Simaruba, Jatropha etc.
He also said that the bio-diesel is being generated from non-edible oils and waste fatty matter, which can also be used as an alternate fuel. Apart from the money saving product, bio-fuel also helps in environmental protection and can be used as fuel in vehicles, water pumps and generators.
Social Justice Standing Committee president Janardhan Gowda, said that our district has decreased its interest in the matter of environment protection and by producing and using bio-fuel from oil seeds will be a contribution to the nature.
Bhavya Gangadhara Poojary, President of Taluk Panchayat, presided over the programme. Dhanalakshmi Janardhana, Vice President of Zilla Panchayat and Vijayalaxmi Shetty, Vice President of Taluk Panchayat, were present.
