Mangalore : The Sarojini Naidu Award is presented every year by The Hunger Project for Best Reporting on Women and Panchayatraj.” The prize carrying a cash award of Rs one lakh each in different language categories has been instituted to encourage writing on issues of women in panchayats, thus motivate them and their leadership qualities.
The Hunger Project which has been working with elected women representatives in Karnataka since 2000 aims to encourage leadership qualities among them, since Karnataka is one of the few states that has made pioneering efforts in strengthening Panchayat Raj system.
The reports can be in English, Hindi or other Indian languages.
