Mangalore : Three celebrities coming to Mangalore on Thursday by car via Shiradi Ghat road, namely Jayanth Kaykini, writer, Hamsalekha, singer and music composer, and S.P.Balasubrahmaniam, plakback singer and actor were unanimous in the opinion that DK roads were not good to drive on , but people were learned and witty. The elections are likely this month for MCC Mayor’s post when roads could decide the issue.
Jayanth made the point in a singing contest held at TMA auditorium for singers talent show held by Canara Bank. Kaikini observed that DK district everything in public life such as banking, industries, hospitals and engineering industries besides schools and colleges, but one failed to be impressed by the public roads it had. He was supported by the musical duo, when their turn came to speak. Whether it is a comment on district administration, or MCC, or National Highway Administration to make amends to the bad roads, or a wake-up call to the DK people and their leaders to bring pressure on the departments of public works in the state to provide smooth roads and streets in DK, each one of us has to ponder over.
Indeed, DK people do not want praise of their ability to learn, absorb and lead an intelligent life, but they failed to look after their roads and allowed the bureaucrats to neglect their duties in a modern society to demand and obtain good roads as in USA or UK. The dissatisfaction over our roads is widespread in nooks and corners of DK, especially in rainy season.
Roads improve trade and commerce not in intelligence. Traffic has increased multifold in coastal areas in the last 3 decades. The so-called public servants need to act now.
