Mangalore : The members of Youth Against Dowry (YAD) launched a signature campaign against dowry after the Friday prayers at Eidgah Masjid on Light House Hill Road on April 13, Friday.

Dr Farhan Mohammed, president of YAD launched the campaign. Speaking on the occasion, he said that this signature campaign will continue in the twin districts in all jamaaths.

He said that at the present day, Muslim women do not get married because of the heavy demand of dowry by the groom’s family. Many families have become bankrupt after paying dowry, he added.

He also said that the YAD activists will visit mosques in rural areas in order to create awareness against dowry among Muslim youth.

Large numbers of Muslim youth and YAD members took oath against paying and demanding of dowry on this occasion.
