New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday clarified that BS Yeddyurappa would continue to remain as the Chief Minister of Karnataka. Announcing this in New Delhi BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said that Yeddyurappa had clarified his stand on the land scams in Karnataka.
“Yeddyurappa has given his view points and clarified on the land scam in Karnataka. After consultation with senior party colleagues and local leaders, BJP has decided to keep Yeddyurappa as the Chief Minister of Karnataka” said Javadekar while reading a statement from BJP President Nitin Gadkari.
Karnakata state government has also a constituted commission of inquiry to find out the details in the land scam case.
“I assure the people of Karnataka that we will continue with the development works in Karnataka. Allegations made against us will be proven wrong. Senior party leaders LK Advani, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley have given their blessings to me. I was never asked to resign,” Yeddyurappa said after he was asked to continue as Karnataka Chief Minister.
Reacting to the development, Congress blamed the BJP for not being able to control Yeddyurappa.
“This decision shows that the party high command has no control over Yeddyurappa. This is also a big insult to the media who exposed all the corruption of Yeddyurappa. We will take this up to the people in the panchayat elections. It seems now that Yeddyurappa is bigger than the RSS and the party high command,” said KPCC President G Parameshwar.
But even as Yeddyurappa remains in power, his link to shady land deals were once again exposed on Tuesday.
The land acquired for Rs 40 lakh was sold for Rs 20 crore. The land belonged to the Bangalore Development Authority.
Investigations reveal that Yeddyurappa’s family bought the land illegally in 2006 when he was the deputy chief minister. The land was not denotified then.
The land was subsequently denotified in November 2008 after Yeddyurappa became the Chief Minister.
