Mangaluru : “Yettinahole Uttara Needi” campaign in protest against the Yettinahole diversion project or Nethravati diversion project in Dakshina Kannada begun from Thursday, September 3.
Sahyadri Sanchaya, a group of environmental activists, launched the campaign by staging a street play in front of the Deputy Commissioner at 4 p.m.
The activists, would distribute handouts having 10 questions to the government and elected representatives with their telephone numbers. People would be urged to ask MLAs, MLCs and MP to answer those questions.
The campaign would go on in different parts of the district till September 14, said convener Dinesh Holla. A horse or two would be deployed to tour the district for distributing the handouts.
All College Students’ Association will join the campaign and stage a rasta roko in front of the University College, Hampankatta, on Friday at 10.30 a.m., opposing the project, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, harikrishna Punaruru alleged that the project was “murder of democracy”. It alleged that politicians of Dakshina Kannada were not bothered about the implications of the project, he added.
Ramachandra Baikampady, Yogish Shetty Jeppu, many more speakers urged the government to drop the project.
