Mangaluru: Children from different educational institutions and social activists took part in the cleanliness drives held across the city as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign held as part of Gandhi Jayanti on Tuesday.
A large number of people took part in the launch of Swachha Surathkal Abhiyan of Ramakrishna Mission in Hosabettu.
As part of the campaign, activists took out Swachhata Jatha from the Zilla Panchayat Higher Primary School, Hosabettu, to Chitrapura beach where a cleaning activity was held.
The Kanara Small Industries Association conducted cleaning campaign in the Baikampady industrial area. Joint Director of District Industries Centre Gokuldas Nayak took part in it.
Students from the Yeneopoya School conducted a cleaning campaign at Kadri Park and also one at the Yekkur bus stand. Students also staged a street play on cleanliness at Mangaluru City Corporation and Thokkottu.
The 16-day cleanliness campaign of Southern Railway concluded in Palakkad on Tuesday. Divisional Railway Manager, Palakkad Division, Pratap Sing Shami, led the railway personnel who took the swachhata pledge on the occasion.
Staff and students of National Institute of Technology, Karnataka, Surathkal, took part in the cleanliness drive held near the main building and at the library, dispensary and 13 hostel blocks. Activists of Amala Bharat conducted cleaning drive at the Government Wenlock Hospital.
The Akhila Karnataka Janajagruti Vedike and Sri Keshtra Dharmastala Rural Development Project jointly held a programme in Dharmastala on Tuesday to felicitate those who have successfully completed alcohol de-addiction programme. Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmastala D. Veerendra Heggade and Belthangady MLA Harish Poonja attended the programme.
