Mangaluru : A young student athlete passed away after reportedly ingesting pesticide, believed to be linked to her disappointment over not securing a medal at a national-level sports competition.
The deceased, identified as Nisha B M(17), was a first-year pre-university (PU) student at a Puttur college. Recognized as a promising athlete, she had recently taken part in a national-level sports meet held in Bihar.
According to accounts, Nisha became distraught upon her return from the event due to not achieving a medal. On November 14, she started vomiting and informed her family about ingesting pesticide.
She was promptly taken to a Puttur hospital and subsequently transferred to Mangaluru. Despite medical efforts, she did not respond positively to treatment and passed away on November 25.
The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the case.
