Udupi: A young girl attempted suicide by jumping into river Swarna on Wednesday evening at Kallianpur. Search operations are going on for the girl.

The missing girl has been identified as Chaitra (18) of Puttur in Ambagilu. Her bag and some documents in the bag helped the officers to identify her.

She was returning from her work place where she was working since past four months. After getting down from the bus, she was walking towards her home with phone in her hand and tearful eyes.

When she reached Kallianpur bridge, she jumped into the river with her phone in hand, said sources.

DySP Kumaraswamy, inspector Srikanth Naik and sub-inspector Madhu have visited the spot. Search operations are still going on.
