Mangaluru : Dakshina Kannada district police on Saturday nabbed a youth from Mangaluru taluk for allegedly reneging on a promise to marry a girl he had professed to love and then coercing her into a sexual relationship with him.

SP B M Laxmi Prasad said the accused, Mohammad Azharuddin, 28, was in a ‘relationship’ with the victim for the past several years. He subsequently refused to marry the girl and threatened to upload pictures of them and defame her. Based on a complaint the girl lodged with Bantwal town police station, police picked up the accused and produced him before the court. He has been booked under sections 417, 354(a)(1)(i) of IPC and remanded to judicial custody, the SP added.
