Mangalore : B K Sandeep, executive committee member of Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Committee speaking at the press meet held at District Congress Office on Jan 13, Thursday, said that, the congress youth committee will start Youth Congress Membership Drive from February first week.
He said that, the drive will be started in Mangalore on Jan 15. The regional turning officers will visit the states to give awareness campaign. The campaign has been completed in 14 states and on Jan 15 at Karnataka and Jan 17 at Maharastra.
He also said that, after the drive concludes, elections will be held for Youth Congress leadership in all panchayats, municipalities and wards in the city. This is a part of the drive being undertaken all over the country to democratize youth wing of the party.
Youth Congress during the membership drive launched by Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi in September last year had 30,000 members and this time it already has 14.5 lakh members.
In Kerala the election process has been completed and the five members from each booth from 20,000 booth has completed the awareness campaign.
Krishna Bhaire Gowda, ex-MLA and the president of state Youth Congress committee and Vishwa Ranjan Mohanty will arrive to the city on Jan 15 as a part of drive and create awareness on neutral, free and fair election to be conducted in the states.
He also said that, to become the member of the congress youth committee, the person must have the age limit of 18 to 35 years. They must also provide age proof, address proof and photo for the membership. After scrutiny, the voters list will be released.
There are 1815 booths in Mangalore and there will be 5 members committee, at Panchayath level there will be 10 members committee, 10 members committee at assembly level and 10 members committee at Parliament level. There is also 10 member committee in the corporation ward, he said.
The youth committee has given separate reservation for women, SC/ST and minorities in the election. This drive is going to be held for the first time in the state, he added.
Congress Youth members like Dikshit Gowda, Arun Coehlo, Namitha, Praveenchandra Alva, Mithun Rai, Amruth Tantri and others were present.
