Mangaluru : After a youth who was stabbed at Sajipa Mooda near Melkar in Bantwal on the night of Thursday August 6 and died, a snap was held in the premises of a private hospital here the next day.Four person with machetes,were alleged to have attacked Nasir and Mohammed Mustafa at Sajipa Mooda late night on Thursday. On Thursday night, Mustafa had come back to Melkar after getting his relative admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru and met Nasir, who was waiting there to leave for his in-laws’ house. Since both were going in the same direction they hired a same auto.Two persons came in a bike and stopped the auto and asked for directions to reach some place when the auto was near Shiva temple at Sajipa Mooda, Two others who also came in another bike allegedly pulled out Nasir and Mustafa out of the auto and scolded them. They then attacked Mustafa with machetes, but despite being badly injured, he managed to escape. The assailants then brutally attacked Nasir and fled from the spot.
Mustafa after escaping took refuge in a house belonging to one Anwar, and later Mustafa and Nasir were admitted, to a private hospital and shift to a hospital in Mangaluru for further treatment. Nasir did not respond to treatment and died. while Mustafa is still in the ICU, sources said.
On hearing Nasir’s death,, people gathered at the hospital protested for not taking timely action against the police in the case. Such attacks have increased in the past few days, and hence demanded immediate arrest of the assailants and expressed concerns Deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim and superintendent of police (SP) Dr Sharanappa spoke to the protesters and after their assurance, that the accused would be arrested, the protest was withdrawn.
PFI, Bantwal unit issued a statement to ondemned the assault and demanded thorough probe into the case. and alleged that Sangh Parivar was behind the attack.
