Mangaluru: A youth from Bolar is died due to suspected engue in the city on Thursday.
The deceased is Karhtik from Mulihithlu in Bolar.
However, health department officials are yet to confirm the cause of death.
DHO Dr Ramakrishna Rao, confirming the death of Karthik, said the department is yet to confirm the cause of death. “The patient was admitted to a private medical college hospital in the city recently with fever and other symptoms, and he died today,” Dr Rao said.
It may be recalled that video journalist Nagesh Padu, who was working with a Kannada News channel, died of dengue a few days ago. Meanwhile, the death of a woman reported at Kabaka near Puttur was confirmed as a dengue case through the Elisa test. An eight-year-old boy from Kodialbail and a 12-year-old girl from Gujjarakere in the city , also had died due to dengue.
With one more death, the total number of deaths due to suspected dengue went up to five in the district since July.
On Thursday, 49 patients suffering from fever were admitted at various hospitals in the district.
The district administration, health department and Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) have been continuing their drive against dengue. Teams conducted spot inspections and collected fines to the the tune of Rs 5,000 for mosquito breeding and waterlogging from defaulters.
