Udupi : A 22-year-old youth drowned in the Papanashini river on the afternoon of Monday, March 15. The incident took place in the Kaup police station limits.

The deceased has been identified as Sumanth Kulal, Shirva resident .

It is said, he had gone to pick seashells on the banks of the rivulet along with two of his uncles.

Locals rescued another person  who was trying to save Sumanth from drowning.

Police sources stated that the search for Sumanth’s body is in progress.
