Mangalore : A Sirsi youth who had earlier reportedly fell from a moving Netravathi Express into the Netravathi River on Friday night, has been found dead. His body was found near Ullal bridge at Kotekar on July 21, Sunday. The deceased is Vinay Vaz (24), a parishioner from Sirsi who was returning to his hometown from Kerala along with 700 others from the Karwar Diocese who attended a youth retreat in Kerala.
It is believed that Vinay who headed the 28 member team of Infant Jesus Church, Sirsi, mistook that the train arrived at the station, while in fact it had slowed down while passing through the Netravathi Bridge. Vinay who stepped out fell straight into the river.
The train was halted for nearly 40 minutes after its chain was pulled. But later it proceeded. Five members of Vinay’s team stayed back in Mangalore. His body was traced on Sunday at Kotekar. Vinay, a talented youngster was the son of Wilson Vaz.
