Mangalore : The Yuva Janata Dal organized a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Mangalore on September 29, Saturday to condemn the Union Government decision on the cap in the number of subsidized LPG cylinders provided to the consumers during a year. Srinath Rai, District Yuva Janata Dal Working President and Khurshid Sheikh, leader of women’s wing led the agitation.
Addressing the agitators, Srinath Rai said the LPG cap to six has hit hard the common man. The hike in price of diesel has added salt to injury, making life difficult for the poor and middle class, he further added.
Continuing, he said the Centre has followed a step motherly attitude by increasing the LPG cap to nine in Congress ruled states. He said the JD(S) is also fighting against the failure of the state government to provide maximum of nine cylinders to consumers in a year when even the BJP government in Goa has decided to provide 10 cylinders a year.
Yuva Janata Dal leaders Kishore Shetty Deppuniguttu Moilettu, Akshith Suvarna, Janardhan Bolpugudde,SB Shekhabba, Shashikiran Poojari Bellur and others participated in the protest.
A memorandum was also submitted to the Government through the Deputy Commissioner, seeking steps to provide 12 cylinders a year to the consumers.
