Mangalore: Mahesh Kumar Thuppekkal, Vice President of Yuva Morcha in DK dt., at a press meet held on Tuesday indicated that a few Yuva Morcha activists from the coastal belt had planned well on how to reach Jammu and take part in the flag-hoisting programme in Lal Chowk, Srinagar on Wednesday (Jan-26) as decided.
Some of them had already left Bangalore on Jan.21 by train and reached Maharashtra via Gulbarga. The train was halted for two hours. It took 16 hours later on to reach MP via Solapur, he told the reporters.
Some stones were pelted at the BJP coaches. It was Congress activists who did so with an assistance from Maharashtrian police. But the YM (Karnataka) members were not hurt.
The train in which the Yuva Morcha members had travelled was deprived of running water and electricity supply. But they did not lose courage and pushed on, raising slogans against Maratha police.
There was a war of words and manhandling by a paramilitary presence of 3000 men. Later railway officers promised facilities on the way. The train had to be stopped in Gulbarga.
Raghavendra Rao, BJP Yuva Chief and DK volunteers were present at the press meet.
