Mangalore: The problems faced by various schools in district either due to shortage of teachers or non availability of text books, were highlighted at the Zilla Panchayat meeting held on July 16, Monday.
If ZP member Mamatha Gatti drew the attention of the ZP towards the fact that SSLC students at the Sajipanadu school were hit hard for want of science and Maths teachers, another member Chandrakala pointed out that text books have not yet reached the school at Perinje.
Responding to both the queries, the ZP Chief KT Shailaja Bhat said necessary steps would be taken and instructed the Block Education Officers concerned to look into the problems.
Yet another ZP member Devaraj said grocery items were in shortage for mid day meals in some schools, to which the ZP CEO KN Vijayaprakash said there should be no such problems and assured remedial measures.
A Congress member from Kolnadu MS Mohammad said a Koraga family which was homeless was taking shelter in a local PHC and questioned why the housings scheme has not benefitted this family. Responding to this, the ZP chief said the social welfare officers have prepared a list of landless Koraga families and the same has been forwarded to tahsildars.
Dhanalakshmi Janardhan, Vice President of ZP, Ishwar Kateel, President of Standing Committee on Education and Health and Nazeer, planning officer, were also present.
