Four held for supplying weapons to Mangaluru jail inmates

commissioner Mangaluru : The city police have arrested four persons in connection with the supply of weapons inside the Mangaluru jail.

The weapons were allegedly used for the murder of undertrial Madoor Yusuf inside the prison on November 2.

Addresing to  media persons here on Monday, City Police Commissioner S Murugan said the arrested are Mahesh Kumar (35), Lathish (23), Sathish Acharya (42) and Kamalaksha Poojary (42). Mahesh and Lathish had come near the prison wall in a two-wheeler on October 31. Later, Mahesh threw the weapons inside the prison. The weapons – dagger and knives – were manufactured by Sathish Acharya and was handed over to Kamalaksha Poojary, who in turn, handed over to Mahesh to be supplied to the prison, he added.

The police have filed two separate cases in connection with the murder of Yusuf and his associate Ganesh Shetty inside the Mangaluru jail premises on November 2.

The police have already arrested five persons Lithesh, Shobharaj, Yuvaraj, Pradeep and Umesh Kumbar in connection with the case.

Further investigation is on, Murugan said.

Two persons have been arrested for possessing weapons and moving suspiciously, violating laws under Section 144, in Mangaluru North police station limits on Saturday.

The arrested are M Arif (29) and Ahmmed Shravan (23). The accused allegedly thrown an iron rod at the police personnel whey the latter tried to stop them.

The police have arrested three persons for robbing a businessman and his friends at Bajal on Sunday. The arrested are Bhavar Maharaj, Kishor Kumar (21) and Sagan Lal (30). The accused robbed businessman Bhuraram and his friends of Rs 1.30 lakh cash, gold and other goods worth Rs 1.44 lakh.

The police have recovered pistols, two knives, eight mobile phones, 10 gram of gold, Rs 95,000 and two cars from the accused.

Police have arrested a man in connection with the robbery in the house of a lone woman at Kavoor in July.

The arrested has been identified as Ravi (30). The police had arrested one Taranath in connection with the robbery already. Based on the information, related to a crime, provided by Ravi during the interrogation, the police arrested actor Vinod Alva on Monday.
