Mangalore : State Forest and DK district in charge Minister B Ramanath Rai inaugurated ‘Kerosene Free City’ campaign by watering a plant at Mangalore City Corporation on October 8, Wednesday.
The district administration has decided to provide LPG connection to every home through the special campaign to be organized on October 8, 9, 18 and 19 from 10.00 am to 4.30 pm to make the city kerosene free.
Rai symbolically handed over the LPG gas cylinder along with the cooking range to six beneficiaries and said that LPG gas connections will be provided to the beneficiaries who are availing kerosene oil through ration cards.
He also said that camps will be organized to distribute LPG gas which is environment friendly project since it saves many trees. He wished people to avail this facility within this month.
MLA J R Lobo said that the beneficiaries must congratulate DC, corporation officials, municipal officials, Bank and gas company officials for initiating the campaign.
Lobo said that, many poor people in the city are finding difficult to house numbers and ration card. Through this campaign every poor deprived of basic facility can avail LPG gas connection.
DC A B Ibrahim said that, Leading banks including SCDCC Bank have come forward to provide loans to purchase gas kits at the cost of Rs 4,000 per household and people can pay Rs 200 as monthly installments.
Corporator Shashidhar Hedge was also present during the occasion.
