Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer M R Ravi expressed displeasure at the failure of the bankers to seed Aadhaar number of job card holders under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee (MGNREG) Scheme to their accounts.
Speaking at district-level review committee meeting for banking development and release of Nabard’s potential-linked credit plan for 2017-18 here on Thursday, he said only 55% of job card holders’ Aadhaar numbers has been linked to their accounts in the respective banks.
The authorities have already submitted consent forms of the labourers to link their Aadhaar number. Failure to link Aadhaar will deny the job card holders with their wages from January 1, 2017.
He said, “Banks would be responsible if the authorities fail to pay wages to the labourers for the work carried out by them under MGNREGS. We will take up the matter with the chairman of the respective banks.”
About 8,240 consent forms of the labourers are pending with Canara Bank, 22,783 forms with Syndicate Bank, 1,803 with SBM, 22,577 with Vijaya Bank, 2011 with SBI, 7,475 with Corporation Bank and 2,957 with Karnataka Bank, the CEO informed the bankers. The bankers promised to seed Aadhaar number with their accounts immediately.
Banks in Dakshina Kannada district have been asked to improve their Credit-Deposit (CD) ratio. Syndicate Bank DGM N S Somayaji said that CD ratio as on September 30 was 57.44% showing an increase of 2.89% to the corresponding CD ratio of 54.55% as on September 30, 2015. However, there is still scope for improving the CD ratio in the district and reach the minimum bench mark of 60%, he said.
Allahabad Bank, BOM, BOB, PSB, Syndicate Bank, SBH, KVGB, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Catholic Syrian Bank, Federal Bank, J & K Bank, Laxmi Vilas Bank, South Indian Bank, TMBL, HDFC, Axis Bank, City Union Bank Ltd, SCDCC Bank and KSCARD Bank Ltd have a CD ratio of above 60%.
He said the banks have to accelerate lending as per the plan of action prepared by them for achieving the stipulated level of 60%. Stating that the total business at the end of September 30 stood at 55,226.75 crore, he said deposits have increased by 1.24% and advances by 6.59%. The total disbursement in district is Rs 5,191.76 crore as on September 30, translating into an achievement of 43.26% of the annual target of Rs 12,000 crore.
The disbursement under MSME as on September 30 was Rs 992.29 crore, he explained.
Stressing on digital payment, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel urged the bankers to adopt villages to create awareness on net banking among the villagers.
A representative from Vijaya Bank said they have adopted 8 villages in Dakshina Kannada including Kalladka, Ishwaramangala, Aranthodu to create awareness on cashless transaction. PoS will be installed with the merchants to promote cashless transaction. Camps are also conducted in these villages, he added.
Lead Bank manager Raghava Yajamanya urged the bankers to adopt a few villages to promote solar energy. On Stand-Up India scheme, he said 585 proposals have been received by the banks under the scheme, of which, 42 proposals have been processed and Rs 3.85 crore has been disbursed.
Each branch should disburse loan for atleast one project for SC, ST and women category for setting up a greenfield enterprise, to give an impetus to their social empowerment, he added.
