Mangaluru: IGP (Western Range) Hemanth Nimbalkar said a political party is fomenting communal tension by spreading false information about the death of Paresh Mesta in Honnavar, Uttara Kannada, last week.
“An official press release dated 9/12/2017 was issued by a political party with respect to death of Paresh Mesta through which false information was shared with the media and public. Through various social media messages, a deliberate attempt is made to divide society on communal lines…” he said.
The IGP’s message reads that the investigating officer had collected all the allegations through the press note and various social media messages and a questionnaire had been sent to doctor who conducted the autopsy. On Monday, the officer received a reply.
“The report has demolished the false claims,” he said. He said action will be taken against people who abetted communal tension, including assault on public servants at Kumta on Monday.
Dr Shankar M Bakkanavar, associate professor, department of forensic medicine, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, who performed the autopsy on Mesta, has clarified: “There are no evidences of injuries caused by weapons. The external injury no.1 (abrasion) and external injury no.2 (abrasion) could be caused by blunt force trauma.”
