Udupi: Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister of Sports and Youth Services, announced names of 13 sportspersons who have been selected for the prestigious ‘Ekalavya Awards’ and two coaches have been chosen for the ‘Lifetime Achievement awards’ and nine sportspersons for the ‘Karnataka Kreeda Ratna Awards’.
Addressing the media here, Madhwaraj said that 13 youth for the Ekalayva awards are: Harshit S. (Athletics), Rajesh Prakash Uppar (basketball), Poorvisha S. Ram (badminton), Renuka Dandin (cycling), Mayur D. Bhanu (shooting), Kartik A. (volleyball), Malvik Vishwanath (swimming), Kirtana T.K. (rowing), Ayyappa M.B. (hockey), Sukesh Hegde (kabaddi), Gururaj (weight lifting), Sandeep B. Kate (wrestling), Revati Nayak M. (physically challenged – swimming).
The awards will be given by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at Bengaluru on March 7.
The Ekalavya award winners will recieve a cash prize of Rs 2 Lakh and a trophy from state Youth Empowerment and Sports Department.
The two coaches for ‘Lifetime Achievement Awards’ would get a cash prize of Rs. 1.5 lakh, and a shield.
Also, 10 organizations will receive ‘Karnataka Kreeda Poshaka Prashasti’ awards for motivating students.
