Mangaluru : The Legislative Assembly elections in India are the elections in which the Indian electorate choose the members of the Vidhan Sabha (or Legislative/State Assembly). will be held on May 12 from 7 am to 6 pm in all the 1,858 polling stations of the Dakshina Kannada district. Counting of votes will be held on May 15 at Mahatma Gandhi Centenary Higher Primary School, Bondel (Beltangady, Moodbidri and Mangaluru North) and Mahatma Gandhi Centenary PU College, Bondel (Mangaluru South, Mangaluru, Bantwal, Puttur and Sullia).
Total 2,700 police personnel and officers (central armed paramilitary force, civil police, armed police and home guards) have been deployed for the election duties within the city police limits in 877 polling stations within the city commissionerate. While in district police limits, 6 DySP, 14 police inspectors, 40 PSI, 136 head constable, 660 police constables, 330 home guards, 20 forest guards along with 11,400 central paramilitary personnel, 3 KSRP, and 1 RAF platoon has been deployed for 981 polling stations.
On Friday May 11, polling officials and personnel deputed on poll duty reported at the mustering center at Rosario PU College and Canara primary and high schools here.
This time, voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) units are being used along with electronic voting machines (EVMs). In Dakshina Kannada, 2,608 VVPATs are being used in the eight constituencies.
