Mangaluru: District administrations of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi on Friday declared holiday for schools on Friday and Saturday owing to rains.
The south-west monsoon that entered Karnataka on Thursday, remained active throughout the evening and night. Since it rained throughout the night, the administrations did not want to put kids at risk and decided to declare holiday.
Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis declared holiday for schools and pre-university colleges in Udupi district on Friday on account of heavy rains.
During the May 29 deluge, a schoolgirl was washed away in the swelling waters of a stream in Padubidri, Udupi district. Her body was fished out later.
Many areas in Dakshina Kannada received about 120 mm rain since Thursday morning till Friday early morning.
