Udupi: About 10,000 Muslims from 7 villages in a zonal union will fast on March 28, against alleged pollution of air and water caused by Udupi Power Corporation (UPCL) coal-based thermal power plant that emitted huge quantities of fly-ash.
Addressing media persons on Thursday, the Muslim Union Chief M.P.Moidinabba warned that an irresponsible UPCL had affected the health and environment of people living around the power plant. Muslims of 7 areas would fast from 4am to 6-45 pm on Monday (March 28) to fight pollution menace created by UPCL.
Moideenabba charged the Govt. with failure to protect the people.
The protesting Muslims would offer the evening prayers and take food (Iftar) later. A meeting at the Padubidri Mosque is arranged at 4pm Khazis of Udupi and Mangalore will attend it.
