Mangaluru : The polling in Dakshina Kannada local authorities’ constituency with 99.5% of the voters from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts exercising their franchise on Friday.
Election was held for the constituency that has 6,040 voters in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. Electors must choose two MLCs from the constituency that has 377 GPs, including 223 in Dakshina Kannada and 154 in Udupi. Social welfare minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, Congress’ Manjunath Bhandari and SDPI candidate Ismail Shafi K are in fray for the election to DK bicameral constituency.
While 6,013 out of 6,040 voters have exercised their franchise, five out of 14 taluks in the constituency recorded 100% polling. While Byndoor, Hebrii (in Udupi), Moodbidri, Bantwal and Kadaba (in DK) taluks have recorded 100%, eight taluks registered more than 99%. As many as 27 voters in the constituency failed to exercise their franchise. Out of 2,915 male voters, 2,902 cast their votes.
Meanwhile, out of 3,125 female voters, 3111 exercised their franchise.
A member of 34- Nekkilady GP, who was suffering from illness, arrived in an ambulance to the polling station to exercise his franchise. While the GP has 11 voters, ten had exercised their franchise in the morning itself.
Deputy commissioner Dr K V Rajendra said the polling was peaceful without any untoward incidents being reported. All arrangements have been made to count the votes at Rosario PU-Degree College at Pandeshwar on December 14, he said.
