Udupi/ Mangalore : Udupi district witnessed the heavy rain which continued to lash damaging 25 houses with the estimate loss of Rs 2.5 lakhs on July 30, Friday.
Due to the house damages, the more number of families were shifted to rehabilitation centers and nearby houses in the resident. People travelling by cars or bikes had to beat a fast retreat.
The Udyavara River was seen over flooded as a result families from Udyavara village and Kote village were also shifted to the rehabilitation centers of their village.
P Hemalatha, Deputy Commissioner of Udupi visited the low lying areas of Uppur near Brahmavar. Fire Service personnel rescued 93 persons and 17 cattle from being washed away in the rain.
Apart from it, Dakshina Kannada district too witnessed heavy rainfall throughout t the day creating artificial flooding in nearby areas. The level of water in the Netravati River has apparently increased and almost reaches the NH 48 near Addyar Kannur.
Although the city educational officer announced holiday to school, the students enjoyed themselves playing in the water flood in the premises of a Government Urdu School at Kallapu Patla.
Apart from it, various parts in the city like Kodialbail, Kodialgutthu and Central Market areas were over flooded.
