Mangalore: “Jailininda Jailige Rangotsava’ an initiative by Sankalpa, Mysore in association with the Prison Department of Karnataka, has been widely appreciated. The inauguration of this programme was done by Pratap Reddy, IGP (Western Range) at the Town Hall in Mangalore on July 2, Monday. On the inaugural day prisoners from Mysore presented the Kannada version of the Shakespearean play ‘King Lear’ which received a thunderous applause and was widely appreciated by the audience.
Earlier, speaking at the function, IGP Pratap Reddy said the initiative by Sankalpa and Prison Department was novel and helped in exhibiting the talent of the prisoners.
Superintendent of Police Abhishek Goel, Seemanth Kumar Singh, Mangalore Police Commissioner, P S Ambekar, Superintendent, District Jail, Mangalore, Ronald Colaco, NRI entrepreneur were among those present on the occasion.
Plays ‘Kattale Daari,’ ‘Shivarathri’ and ‘Gokarnada Goudashaani’ will be presented on July 3, 4 and 5 respectively.
Hoolugappa Kattimani, Director of Sankalpa, Mysore has trained the jail inmates and feels this was an ideal way to bring about a mental transformation in them.
