Mangalore: The DKCC today afternoon held a press meet, to congratulate all those Congress activists from 5 taluks of DK dt. (about 400) who went to Hiriyur in Chitradurga dt last week, to join the main batch from Bangalore on way to Bellary on a 320 km walk.
DKCC chief B. Ramanath Rai, MLA, presided. He stated that the journey on foot turned into a people’s movement against looting natural wealth in state by a few. Students, several organisations, women and Dalit Sangh members who welcomed the walkers at several points, supported the journey on principle. The entire event was a huge success. The Padayatra (foot walk) was for the specific purpose of handing the investigation about illegal (iron-ore) mining to CBI. The pressure has been created. The CBI investigation should lead to punishment of the guilty, whoever they may be. If administrators turned traders, people (voters) may end up as paupers, he joked. He also broke the happy news that at Kaliya in Belthangady Tq, Congress secured a majority.
