Mangalore : If poor visibility and bad weather had forced aircrafts to be diverted from Mangalore to Cochin and Calicut airports last week, on Friday there was trouble at Goa airport due to bad weather. Two Jet Airways flights from Mumbai on its way to Goa landed at the Bajpe airport here on Friday due to poor visibility and heavy rains at Goa Airport.
The aircrafts landed here at 2 pm and 2.10 pm. They departed after they received information that weather conditions had improved.
There was comparatively less rain compared to Wednesday and Thursday in Dakshina Kannada on Friday. The rainfall in different parts of the district was as follows: Bantwal 69.8 mm, Belthangady 102.6 mm, Puttur17 mm, Uppinangady 67.4 mm, Sullia 36.4 mm, Bajpe airport 86.3 mm and Mangalore taluk received 67.6mm of rainfall.
Bangalore based Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre said that widespread, rather heavy to heavy rain was received in Udupi, DK and Uttara Kannada.
KSNDMC added that Karnataka for the period June 1 to August 31 has recorded deficit rainfall of 24%. Against normal weighted average rainfall of 672.5mm in south-interior, north-interior, Malnad and coastal parts, state received 505.3mm rainfall.
For 24-hours period ending 8.30am on August 31, the four geographical regions of Karnataka received 6.7mm actual weighted average rainfall against normal weighted average rainfall of 4.5mm, a surplus of 49%.-DH News
