Mangalore : M Purushottham Kottary, president of civil contractors Association said that it is good to see the qualitative and beautiful buildings constructed in the district, but the contractors are facing problem in protecting quality.
He was speaking at the press meet held at Hotel Woodlands on Sep 13, Thursday. He also said that the contractors face the lack of construction workers and also there is lack of construction material.
He also said that the laterite stone is the basic material required for the construction of building. The wall constructed by the laterite stone has been used as load bearing for the one floor houses. Previously the laterite stone was available with 18 inches height, 9 inch width and 6 inch thickness. But now a day the laterite stone is available with 13 inches height, 8.5 to 9 inch width and 7 to 8 inches thickness which will lead to the crack development near the vertical joints and create severe problem.
Hence he urged the laterite stone manufacturers and owners of laterite mining to provide the stone to increase the height at least to 13 inches and help the house owners and contractors, he said.
Dinkar Suvarna, Mahabala Kottary, Devananda, Ashok Kulal and Suresh J were present at the press meet.
