Mangalore: Ganesh Amin Sankamar, Professor in St Aloysius PU College, released the second edition of the Kannada translation of the holy Quran. The translation was done by Abdussalam Puthige, the editor-in-chief of Vartha Bharathi Kannada daily. The book release function was held at Town Hall on February 1 under the joint auspices of the Forum for Humanity, Udupi and Yuva Vahini Kendra Samithi, Mangalore.
Speaking on the occasion, Ganesh Amin Sankamar stressed the need for communal harmony and also spoke about the splendid example of communal harmony at the Bappanadu kshetra where the goddess blessed a Muslim called Bappa Beary.
Msgr Dennis Prabhu, Vicar General of the Diocese of Mangalore, who also spoke, said religion takes man on the path of progress and righteousness. Translating a major work is a tremendous responsibility as it has to be done with great care, he said.
