Mangalore : Veteran Tulu playwright Machendranath Pandeshwar is no more. The end of Machendranath who has contributed several Tulu and Kannada plays, came at his daughter’s residence at Yekkar on April 6, Saturday. He was 78.
His first Tulu play was ‘Mokeda Magaleg Kuselda Kandani,’ followed by ‘Telpere Kalpi’, ‘Bombayida Podu’, ‘Satya Sayyand’, ‘Badukonji Kana’, and over a hundred others.
He had authored over 160 Tulu plays . Some of his plays Mokeda Magaleg Kuselda Kandani’, ‘Porthu Kanthundu’ and ‘Dare Sere’ have been made into films.
He has also penned lyrics and acted in Tulu films ‘Pettai Pilli’, ‘Badkere Budle’, ‘Bangarda Kural’, and ‘Baghyavanthdi’.
Machendranath Pandeshwar had also won several awards including Dakshina Kannada Rajyostava Award, Karnataka Nataka Academy Award, and Tulu Sahitya Academy Award.
