Udupi :  Hundreds of people   offered Pitru Tarpana a ritual to pay homage to ancestors  on the occasion of Karkataka Aati Amavasya on August 6, Tuesday. People were seen taking a holy dip in the sea and doing Pinda Pradhana ritual.

 On this day people early in the  morning have the Kashaya of  Hale tree  for good health. The First moon occurrence of August month is marked as Aati amavasya an auspicious day for Hindus. Legend says that it was on this day that Lord Shiva accepted Parvathi as his wife, moved by her devotion towards him.
