Mangalore: A unique identity number registration campaign ‘Aadhar’ was launched at the head post office in Pandeshwar on July 6, Wednesday.
The card, ‘Aadhar’, made by the Unique Identity Development Authority of India (UIDAI), can be gained from Pandeshwar post office after submitting the relevant documents.
Additional DC Prabhakar Sharma symbolically launched the scheme. Speaking on the occasion, he said that problems seen during the voter id distribution must be overcome this time while availing the national identity card. He urged citizens to obtain UIDAI cards and make the project a grand success.
The UIDAI biometric card carries a unique 12 digit number and will be issued free of charge. It will be useful for various purposes like opening a bank account, to obtain new mobile connections, withdraw NREGS money, to obtain insurance policies other procedures where producing identity and address proof is mandatory.
