Mangalore: Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Dr KN Vijayaprakash has said that alcoholism was an evil that was the main cause of several problems confronting the society.

He was speaking at a  programme organised at Dr Ambedkar Bhavan, Balepuni in Bantwal taluk as part of World Anti-Drug Week and Awareness camp. The programme was jointly organised by the Information Department, Temperance Board, Bangalore, Balepuni Gram Panchayat,Janashikshana Trust and Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala, on June 21, Thursday.

Further in his address, the ZP CEO said alcoholism leads to killings and accidents and was also the main reason for disputes in many families. He said it was regretting to know that alcohol consumption was considered a prestige by many and also expressed his grave concern over the fact that several youth were falling prey to the vice.

A Sakaala group was inaugurated  on the occasion by the ZP CEO. Rohini, Assistant Director of Information Department and others were present on the occasion.
