Mangalore : BASF India has named super cop and Padma Bhushan Julio Ribeiro as its next ‘Good Governance’ icon and felicitated for his contribution in his fields of service at the felicitation ceremony held at Hotel Ocean Pearl on November 16, Tuesday.
BASF conferred this prestigious title on Padma Bhushan Julio Riberio as part of its ‘Good Governance’ icon series, an initiative under the ‘Million Minds’ project. Mr Ribeiro was felicitated with the shawl, peta, fruit bowl and memento by the dignitaries present on the Dias.
Prasad Chandran, chairman, BASF companies in India and head, South Asia in his opening remarks said, “At BASF, we are committed to the principal of sustainable development. An important part of this is integrity and good governance. This inspires us to take a firm stand against corruption, and this is what the ‘Million Minds’ project focuses on. This felicitation programme aims to sensitize a million Indians, encouraging them to fight corruption and improve governance standards in India.
Addressing the audience, he said that life based on values brings meaning and we are living in the value based society. A value has a foundation for business and the BASF value system is doing business in right way.
Chief guest Lokayukta Justice N Santhosh Hegde said that containing corruption and helping the needy are our primary objectives. Today I have fulfilled my duty by honoring such a great personality.
He also said that we have a common agenda, which is fighting against the corruption. Every one talks about corruption and the corrupted people, but when asked about what they did to stop it, then none of them give the answer.
“In the long run, we aim to influence and motivate young minds to set right the corrupt practices and improve governance standards in all walks of life. Initiatives like BASF’s “Good Governance” Icon Series, introduced by corporate India, will help draw inspiration from these real-life performers in facing difficult odds and fighting against corruption in India, he concluded.
In his acceptance speech, Padma Bhushan Julio Ribeiro said, “The poor and the weaker sections of the society are the ones most impacted by corruption. I appreciate BASF’s initiative to sensitize youth to fight the ills of corruption in India. I am happy to be part of this crusade and hopefully look forward for its realization amongst the youth” he added.
He also said that today we have so many scams and hence people’s tolerance level has decreased. We have to oppose corruption and bad governance. We must bravely say that corruption is unacceptable.
PP Shetty, welcomed the guests and gathering on the occasion. Mrs Ribeiro, IGP Alok Mohan and KV Rao was present.
