Mangalore : The Congress has defeated BJP stalwarts of the undivided DK district namely Krishna Palemar Yogish Bhat and Lalaji Mendon who hitherto represented Mangalore North, Mangalore South and Kaup constituencies.
In Mangalore South Yogish Bhat has conceded defeat to former bureaucrat and first timer JR Lobo. To Lobo goes the credit of defeating four-timer Yogish Bhat who was also the deputy speaker.
On the other hand, the result of Mangalore north has also been a pleasant surprise with Congress overcoming all hurdles and emerging victorious.
Even in Kaup, the Congress had faced rebellion when Vinaykumar Sorake was chosen as its candidate. But Sorake could make it in Kaup and defeat Lalaji Mendon. Vasanth Salian who rebelled and contested as a JD(S) candidate could get only 4000 odd votes.
