Bangalore: A by-election held in Ward No. 180  at Banashankari in view of the death of JDS member Diwan Ali, was not won by the candidate of same party (JDS), according to results published on Wednesday, but by BJP candidate A.H Bharadwaj in the BBMP ward elections held earlier, on June 26.
The JDS candidate, who lost, was none other than M.Akbar, brother of late Diwan Ali.
The vital lead was secured by\ the BJP winner Basavaraj, only on the seventh round, when Akbar fell back in counting. BJP got 7092 votes. Congress claimed second spot in the race.
BJP celebrated its success by bursting crackers and distributing sweets around glee.
