Mangaluru : The district BJP unit has condemned the Opposition parties’ decision to observe a bandh and black day against demonetisation on November 28. The party has termed it totally absurd.
District BJP President Mattar Ratnakar Hegde told reporters that the decision of the prime minister to demonetise high value currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 is indeed a welcome move to get rid of black money.
Currently 45 percent of the black money has been tracked. The equality proposed by the prime minister in terms of white money suffered hindrances in the initial phase. But the situation is returning to normalcy as the days are passing.
The marking system by applying the ink to fingers of the depositors or any customers who prefer changing of scrapped currency notes with the new ones indeed helped to curb the transaction of black money. The lengthy queues in front banks and ATMs have also reduced, he said.
Urging the Opposition parties not to politicise the move, Hegde said nearly 93 percent of the population has appreciated the move. This also includes Nitish Kumar, Bihar chief minister. Former railway minister K H Muniyappa and District In-charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj have appreciated it. The demonisation move is the farsightedness of the prime minister which includes the development for next 100 years, he said.
He said the state government has openly supported the bandh call and the ongoing winter session has been cancelled for a day. There will be no problems for commuting as the bus owners’ associations in both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi will not support the bandh, he said.
Referring to the recent verdict of High Court on staying Kambala, Hegde said Kambala represents heritage folk sport of the coastal region. The stay order for holding Kambala has highly disappointed the Kambala lovers. He added attempts should be made to vacate the stay order by taking up strong defensive arguments at court, he added.
