Mangaluru: Mangaluru city police registered case against 200 BJP workers as they allegedly interfered with the duty of the police personnel during Mangaluru Chalo protest rally organised by BJP Yuva Morcha in Mangaluru city on Thursday.
The party workers reportedly broke the glasses of the window of a KSRTC bus by which the arrested protesters were being taken by the police as they tried to siege deputy commissioner’s office in the city. The police have also seized two lorries, sound boxes and banners inconnection with the protests organised.
Karnataka BJP leaders including state BJP president BS Yeddyurappa, Jagadeesh Shetter, Shobha Karandlaje, KS Eshwarappa, Nalin Kumar Kateel and others are booked under Karnataka Police Act 106, 108 for violating the prohibitory orders to stage protests at Jyothi circle in the city.
Police cases have also been charged under IPC 286, 301, 143 and 149 on the BJP leaders for disturbing the public and holding gathering at Jyothi circle which violated the law.
Earlier, Karnataka state police had dined permission to BJP Yuva Morcha to hold Mangaluru Chalo Bike Rally in Mangaluru city on September 7 on security grounds. However, the party workers were allowed to hold a party convention at Nehru Maidan between 11 AM to 2 PM on the same day.
The party leaders held protests at Jyothi circle in the city and organised a protest march from the circle to DC office to demand Karnataka government to ban some communal organisations for their role in the murder of members of Hindu outfits in Karnataka during the past four years.
