Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada BJP staged protest seeking CBI probe and to arrest former home minister K G George in front of Mangaluru DC office on Saturday.
Addressing the gathering former MLA Yogesh Bhat said that M K Ganapathi was a fearless officer. He handled many cases bravely here in Mangaluru. Then why did he commit suicide?
“His interview to the local channel shows how much he was harassed by his senior officials and political leaders. I think he had decided to commit suicide before giving the interview. Moreover, he gave his interview wearing his police uniform only,” he said.
“The government is trying to destroy the evidences to save the culprits behind this case. The government is putting pressure on Ganapathi’s family to give statements in favour of the government. The case should be handed over to the CBI and K G George should resign to his post,” he added.
If the government can’t safeguard its own officer’s then how it will protect us? He said adding that the police officers should not commit suicide rather they should fight like Anupama Shenoy, who resigned to her post and now fighting against the harassment in police department.
BJP leader Kota Shrinivas Poojary said that this is not just a suicide of a police officer; it is the suicide of the whole system.
“CM’s aide publically threatened the DC of Mysuru, but no action is taken against him. Police personnel held protests to fulfil their demands, but the government didn’t make it happen,” he said.
He further said that the FIR of a suicide case will be registered on the basis of suicide note, but here no FIR was registered against K G George and other two police officials.
“The government is forcing DySP Ganapathi’s family member’s two give false statements in front of media. The government should be ashamed of it. There should be a clear CBI enquiry on this case and all the accused should be arrested,” he added.
Corporator Sudheer Kannur, Roopa D Bangera , Raj Gopal Rai and others were present.
