Mangaluru: BJP stepped up attack on Mangaluru City South MLA J R Lobo of the Congress over his claims on development released in the form of a booklet Sadhaneya Haadiyalli.
Dubbing it a booklet of lies, the party said the MLA has claimed development carried out under various heads of funds including those released by the central government as that of his own and the actual works undertaken under MLAs local area development funds are a bare minimum.
Roopa D Bangera, former leader of the opposition in Mangaluru City Corporation told reporters on Wednesday that Lobo has laid claims to development works carried out by the civic body using funds released by the B S Yeddyurappa government.
While the BJP ruled council spent nearly 96% of the Rs 200 crore grants received, there has been no commensurate release of funds or works undertaken during the last five-years that Lobo was at helm of affairs, she said.
Asserting that data in the booklet has been falsified and development claims over-exaggerated, she said officials have no idea about some of the ‘completed’ development works and works that are in the pipeline.
The claims to have relocated street side vendors to a temporary vending zone near the tempo stand close to Nehru Maidan too has been merely a publicity gimmick, she said adding the problem of road side vendors continues unabated across the city.
The toy train that CM Siddaramaiah inaugurated at Kadri Park with much fanfare on January 7 too has been a non-starter, she said, adding Lobo by making a claim on this non-functioning toy train has toyed with feelings of children as well.
Barring the main entrance gate to Kadri Park that was constructed using his area development fund, other ongoing works in the park are being undertaken with central funds, she said, adding the voters are wise enough to see through such claims.
